To say that SAM’s mission, and what we intend to achieve, are a challenge would be putting it quite lightly. There is no hyperbole when we express the need for good people in our organization, both from a Member and Leader perspective, but also from a core staff perspective.
Every day we inch closer to our goal of uniting America under a similar banner of inclusivity and understanding, but without talented individuals actively contributing to our cause, we become inherently stunted in our execution.
That’s why today we are thrilled to introduce the newest member of our team, Zach Colby. Zach joins SAM as our Field Director, in charge of localized content, engagement, and everything in between! A few Q’s and A’s for Zach:
Where are you coming from (background)?
A: I was born and raised in Prairie Village, KS. I attended school Washington and Lee University and graduated in 2015. At W&L I studied economics and music and captained the soccer team. After graduating I moved to San Francisco to work for a startup in tech. I left that job at the end of 2016 and traveled in Asia, Africa, and Europe for most of 2017 pursuing philanthropy tied to soccer (and a little vacation too). I am thrilled to be settling down in Denver at SAM’s Hub.
Why did you join SAM?
I want to help affect and inspire real change. Seeing who can yell the loudest and exchanging Trump and Bernie memes is fun, but I’m not sure it’s super productive. Having conversations with people about what really matters to them and empowering them to do the same is motivating and enjoyable for most. I’m excited I’ll be able to get to do that professionally as SAM’s field director.
What does SAM’s mission mean to you?
We exist in a time that has truly no precedent. Rapid technological advances are changing our world faster than ever. Politics has largely lost its humanity and its ability to address the issues that we all face. These issues that “matter” are ever-evolving and different to everyone.
Our current system (often) asks people to submit to binary choice. This is inherently inhuman and as we have seen, unproductive and self-defeating. People have lost confidence in their ability to affect legitimate political change, largely thanks to our bifurcated, gridlocked system.
To me, SAM’s “Principles before Policy” mission means refocusing our energy and attention. Let’s reintroduce empathy, compassion, and legitimate dialogue to politics.
One weird/random/funny thing about you that makes you unique or awesome?

SAM is building a new political party for a new majority. Our goal is to break the self-interested stranglehold of the two entrenched parties and give back power and voice over our future, and our country, to the people.
We can’t do it without you.
