The Serve America Movement – SAM, is building a new political party for a new American majority. We’re proud to serve on SAM’s Board of Directors as we start the process of offering voters new and better options and breaking down the stranglehold the Republican and Democratic parties have had on our politics for over 150 years.

Although we’re Democrats, we have seen the damage and despair that today’s hyper-partisanship creates – this happens from both sides of the aisle. The 2016 campaign showed us that something is fundamentally broken within our political system: That’s why we joined SAM.

America needs a new voice, a new political home and a new political party for those millions of voters who have been disenfranchised by the duopoly of the two major parties. So many of the issues we have long cared about — the environment, healthcare, and immigration — are being treated as political footballs. A new path is necessary, and we believe that SAM is the path to fixing our broken system and moving America — and all Americans — forward.

What does SAM stand for? It stands for serious discussion about our national debt: a massive issue that threatens both our seniors and America’s future generations.

It stands for criminal justice reform and ending the era of mass incarceration that has split up far too many families at far too high a price.

SAM stands for substantive electoral reform – from ending partisan gerrymandering to ensuring that all voters have an equal, fair and open opportunity to participate in elections and to freely and easily cast their votes.

Mostly, though, we believe in our neighbors, our communities and our country to begin changing today’s toxic political environment, and instead to work together to set us on a collaborative and productive path. SAM stands for a party that will truly serve America.

In just over a year since our founding, we’ve begun the process of letting voters know that there is a new option on the way; one that will put their needs and interests before those of any political party. Today, we have thousands of members and leaders in all 50 states. As 2018 progresses, we hope to introduce SAM to more and more Americans.

We joined SAM because we believe now is the time to return American politics to where it belongs: to the people. We hope you’ll join us.

— SAM

And Then There Was SAM

Regardless of whether you supported Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential campaign, it’s conventional wisdom that the outcome was unexpected. These two candidates were unpopular with voters – extremely unpopular. By Election Day, they shared a disapproval rating of more than 110%.

One Swampy Thing Both Parties Agree On

There are more things wrong with our politics than we could list in a blog post (honestly, more like 100 blog posts). But one of them seems to be a constant source of annoyance for everyone — no matter who you do or don’t vote for.

61% of Americans Want to See a New Political Party. Where is it?

You want it. We want it. Your friends want it. What’s (or who’s) stopping it?

SAM is building a new political party for a new majority. Our goal is to break the self-interested stranglehold of the two entrenched parties and give back power and voice over our future, and our country, to the people.

We can’t do it without you.
