Have you heard the news out of New York? There’s a pretty bold woman taking a stand against the broken, two-party system perpetuating our politically corrupt culture.
This maverick just threw her hat in the ring to be their next Governor. But she’s not running as a Republican or a Democrat–she’s running as an official SAM candidate.
That’s right — when New Yorkers go to the polls, they won’t just see an R and a D and be forced to choose the lesser of two evils (again). They’ll have a brand new option on their ballots: SAM – The Serve America Movement.
So, we thought we’d take a moment to introduce you to our very first candidate…
Meet a remarkable woman who’s calling it like it is: Stephanie Miner.
Until January, Miner was the Democratic mayor of Syracuse, winning her last race with almost 70% of the vote. She’s been endorsed by the former chair of the New York Democratic Party, John Sullivan, as well as major Democratic Party activist and donor Bill Samuels.
But last month, Miner raised eyebrows when she slammed BOTH major parties in the New York Times for the gridlock in Albany, telling New Yorkers a hard truth: that a new political force would have to enter the fray if we have any hope of fixing it.
You see, once upon a time, Stephanie was an ally of Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo, but she came out swinging several years ago against his failed, corrupt administration.
As she tells it: “If things were going so well in New York State, like the leaders in Albany are telling us, then why have one million people walked away from their families, their friends, their networks and said we have to go to other places to get opportunity?”
Needless to say, we’re thrilled with Stephanie’s decision to put people over party to bring a new political option to voters everywhere in the Empire State, As SAM chairman Scott Muller, put it: “Stephanie is, from our perspective, the vanguard, the pioneer, the first one to go. We are going to do everything we can do under the law to help. She will be our first priority.”
Bigger than the Empire State
But this news is way bigger New York: Independent and centrist groups all across the country are already talking about Stephanie’s candidacy.
They know that it’s not just a big deal for SAM–it’s a signal to millions of Americans who are TIRED of choosing between the “lesser of two evils” over, and over, and over again. A signal that they’re not alone. A signal that we can actually build a new, national political party to take on the entrenched powers-that-be.
So, stay tuned: SAM is coming to a ballot box near you. Want to speed up the process? Fantastic. Get in touch here: http://joinsam.org/get-involved/
— The SAM Team
Even though two out of every five Americans feels this way, our elected leadership hardly represents this reality.
We’ve all either said it or heard it: “My vote doesn’t count.” The bad news is, for a majority of voters, that’s not far from the truth — especially when it comes to congressional races like the midterms coming up this November. The good news is, there are solutions.
There are more things wrong with our politics than we could list in a blog post (honestly, more like 100 blog posts). But one of them seems to be a constant source of annoyance for everyone — no matter who you do or don’t vote for.
SAM is building a new political party for a new majority. Our goal is to break the self-interested stranglehold of the two entrenched parties and give back power and voice over our future, and our country, to the people.
We can’t do it without you.
