As 2018 dawns, it’s time to admit the obvious: the American political system no longer serves the people; it serves special interests, the most hyper-partisans and the politicians themselves – those that swore to uphold the Constitution and do right by their constituents. The same constituents, by the way, that elected them into the office they hold in first place.
Both 2016 and 2017 were among the ugliest and least productive political years in living memory. When choosing our last president, American voters had only two real choices; the two most unpopular major-party nominees in modern history.
Last year was little better as we saw Republicans and Democrats refuse to collaborate on behalf of the American people. We saw political extremists marching through the streets – and some of those demonstrations become violent. We saw one major party become completely unmoored from its ideological underpinnings and the other sitting by with nearly uncontained glee.
We, the American people, deserve better. But in order to deserve better from our politics and our politicians, we must first make an effort to do better ourselves. That is why we launched SAM – the Serve America Movement. SAM is a new political home for those who feel left out or left behind by the Republican and Democratic parties.
SAM was founded by a group of dedicated, concerned citizens who believe that we must begin to take American politics in a new direction and we must do it immediately. Why now? Because the American political system is broken. The two parties have given us division, gridlock and too little progress, for far too long. We are forging a new path. And we need your help.
We are building a new political community across this country. Unlike the two major parties, who don’t listen to voters, SAM is flipping the script. The basis of everything we do starts with you, the individual American.
What are your concerns? What are the issues you’re facing on a daily basis in your community and your state? What do you believe we can and should do to fundamentally change how American politics operates?
Those currently in power take every opportunity to divide us. SAM stands as a beacon for inclusion, providing a shared foundation on which to build a new political home for those left behind by a political system that puts its interests ahead of those of the American people.
SAM instead chooses to focus on those things that unite us as Americans. Fundamental principles such as dignity, liberty, entrepreneurship, strength and a commitment to create a better country for ourselves and our children.
You’re going to hear a lot more from us in the coming days and months.
Now is the time to turn away from the politics of division.
Now is the time to join together to create a new, better, more inclusive path forward.
Now is the time to tell the two major political parties that they’ve failed us in providing real choices for voters.
Now is the time.
Even though two out of every five Americans feels this way, our elected leadership hardly represents this reality.
We’ve all either said it or heard it: “My vote doesn’t count.” The bad news is, for a majority of voters, that’s not far from the truth — especially when it comes to congressional races like the midterms coming up this November. The good news is, there are solutions.
SAM candidate Stephanie Miner is taking a stand against the broken, two-party system perpetuating our politically corrupt culture.
SAM is building a new political party for a new majority. Our goal is to break the self-interested stranglehold of the two entrenched parties and give back power and voice over our future, and our country, to the people.
We can’t do it without you.
