The majority of states in our country run closed primaries. This means that candidates from only one party compete against each other. This most often produces two extreme candidates participating in the general election and elected officials that are more loyal to their party than their constituents.
Closed primaries often disenfranchise independent and third party voters, by not allowing them to vote in primaries at all! By opening primaries to all voters, candidates will have to compete for EVERYONE'S vote, not just their ideologically extreme base.
Open primaries will bring more people, new perspectives, and better ideas to government — and we’ll be a stronger America because of it.
